Flat Kid Project
THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.
All over the internet you can find teachers mailing their flat selves to their students as a way to build community and maintain relationships. They ask that the kids post pictures of themselves doing things with their flat teacher. If your child was lucky enough, maybe their teacher mailed them self to your child. It is quite an adorable project that can provide fun in this unprecedented time. This isn’t a new project but given the circumstances, it is super appropriate. Inspired by the book, Flat Stanley, teachers make a picture of themselves using a bitmoji app, powerpoint, and a few other programs, and mail it to their students. I have modified this project because of social distancing and plan on involving family and friends who we haven’t been able to see!
I mailed myself to my students and their smiles were totally worth the time and effort that was spent creating my flat self. It took quite a long time for me to create a product that I was happy with so I have created a video with the steps you can do to create your flat self or flat kids in a short amount of time!
My own children are missing their grandparents fiercely and their grandparents are feeling the same! I thought I would add a different spin on this project and we decided to make flat kids to mail to friends and family.

This is really fun! I haven’t seen this anywhere yet!
That is an awesome idea! I actually still remember my Flat Stanley project from when I was in first grade as one of my early and cherished school memories and I’m grown now with a kid of my own! I’m sure your students will remember this gesture for the rest of their lives.
Ok this is adorable!! Makes a great gift!
